OK, So I am sitting here getting ready to go to bed but first I need to absorb the happenings of the night. But first a little background so you understand (I guess you might be reading...whoever you are...LOL....reminds me, feel free to comment!)
Iron Man is typically stand-off-ish about affection. Not that he won't accept it but is reserved about getting/giving hugs...although with me he is better (he's sorta at that "it might not be COOL" stage boys sometimes reach)....anyway....prime example of this being due to his bio-home environment: At his last visit bio-mom was yelling at him as they came out of the visit "GET OVER HERE NOW AND GIVE ME A HUG!!!" To which Iron Man replied, "No, I don't like hugs." (At that point, who could blame him...and nope he never did get close enough to her to allow it or any touch.)
Our nightly routine consists of me spending time in each of the boys' beds. During which I do prayers (usually done as a group because they have to beat each other to blessing my family members or they take turns listing them off with their siblings....its cute) and then when I get up to move to the next bed, they each get a "secret" (This is usually words of affirmation and a personalized Blessing...thanks to the small group study done a while back!)
There have been several occasions when Iron Man doesn't want his hugs or kisses during this time...and I usually do it in a less 'personally invasive' playful way. I know, I know....I really am getting to the good stuff... The other day he started with "I don't want a secret". To which I replied, "Thats fine....but I am still going to pray a special blessing for you."
ANYWAY...YES HERE IT COMES>>>>>>
Tonight was my night to start in Iron Man's bed. He was laying upside down in his bed...and so I just decided to lay where the pillow normally is. (fully expecting him not wanting loves, snuggles, secrets, etc.) HAHA, just when you think you figure them.....
So he surprised me! To which the following took place:
Iron Man: Hey, what are you doing?
ME: Laying down
Iron Man: But I'm down here
ME: True but your pillow is usually here....
Iron Man: (Moment of thought) Hmm, well, fine...I'm coming up there.
(PLOPPING HIMSELF RIGHT AGAINST ME AND LAYING DOWN WITH HIS HEAD ON MY SHOULDER IN THE CROOK OF MY ARM HE SNUGGLED IN)
Iron Man: OK time for my blessing.
END OF DAY PRAYER: Thank you Jesus. I am SO thankful that you have given me these bonus children to watch over. I thank you for using me to bless them, teach them, and show them how life can, and should be, for them. I pray that you will continue to use me. I pray that when I am about to embark into a "not-so-stellar parenting moment" you will give me pause so that I may show humility and grace along with a large portion of love, not my frustrations. God I pray that you will continue to always shine upon each of us and strengthen and guide us through the storms. AMEN
I enjoyed reading through your post and hearing about the nightly routine as the kids go to bed.
